Two Senators Appear to be "Friends of Countrywide"

The loud "thud" you just heard over in the corner of the Senate hearing room was Senator Chris Dodd's vice presidential hopes hitting the wall. The Senator was the second major political figure caught up in and possibly brought down by various aspects of the mortgage mess in general and Countrywide Financial in particular.

QUOTE
Ethics Committee Examining Countrywide Loans to Senators
by Paul Kiel - June 17, 2008 5:12 pm EDT

Sens. Kent Conrad and Chris Dodd (wdcpix.com)First, Conrad says that he's begun "talking to the Ethics Committee" after a D.C. watchdog filed a complaint Friday. The panel does not comment on investigations, but it's a sign that at least a preliminary inquiry is under way.

Second, Dodd spoke to reporters for the first time since the story broke last Friday. Up until today, he'd only responded with a brief statement. Dodd again denied that he'd sought or knew he was receiving any special treatment. At the same time, he said today ($) that he'd been told in 2003 he'd been designated a V.I.P. account. He never asked what that meant, he said, but assumed it was a normal status bestowed on Countrywide customers who had an additional mortgage with the company.

Conrad has said that he'd personally called Countrywide CEO Angelo Mozilo to inquire about obtaining a mortgage, but did not expect or notice any special treatment.

Mr Conrad...SHUT UP...you are embarrasing yourself and making a mockery out of the people that put you into office. You called the CEO and didnt expect or notice any special treatment. Then call the toll free number and talk to Judy the customer service rep. Of course you called the CEO for special treatment. Personally, unless they GAVE you a house or a non-repayable loan, I dont care, but dont insult my intelligence.

Mr Dodd...everyone gets a VIP account. What planet are you from?

I wonder if I called the CEO of country wide if she would even speak to me. A VIP account? What is that? I have had country wide as the holder of my mortgage for over 5 years and I have not heard of that. I do not even have the CEOs phone number to call. I looked on my statement I do not see her number there either.
