I have the feeling that it will not only be the police that have to find cuts. I have the feeling that my department may see some cuts too. The city has a huge amount to over come. I am glad that I am the senior person in my department.

Des Moines police have been asked to cut costs amid an estimated $8.8 million citywide shortfall in next year's municipal budget.
At least one department official said the $54 million in police spending this year includes little or no fat and warns that any significant cuts are bound to affect services, such as a popular program that matches officers and neighborhood leaders to fight crime before it festers.
"I'm hearing the police department's piece of cuts is going to be about $2 million," Sgt. David Murillo, president of the Des Moines Police Burial and Protective Association, said. "That's not going to be found in paper clips."
