Catholic Group to Defy New Obamacare Pro-Abortion Mandate
The pro-life Catholic group Priests for Life is the first to announce it will openly defy the new pro-abortion mandate the HHS department put in force today under the Obamacare health care law. The new mandate compels religious employers to pay for and refer employees for birth control, abortion-causing drugs and contraception in violation of employers" religious beliefs.
Father Frank Pavane told LifeNews his pro-life group doesn't qualify for the narrowly-drawn exemptions in the mandate, so his organization will not comply with it and will run the risk of fines and other possible punishment. Ref. Source 3
Even Liberals Agree Obama HHS Mandate Has No Conscience Exemption
Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne, Jr. Wrote, 'the [Catholic] Church's leaders had a right to ask for broader relief from a contraception mandate that would require it to act against its own teachings." He said that the administration had "utterly botched" the way it handled the mandate.
Former DNC Chairman Tim Kaine said that the administration made a "bad decision in not allowing a broad enough religious employer exemption." Ref. Source 6

Catholics for Obama Back to Hide President's Abortion Record
During the 2008 presidential election, a Catholics for Obama effort led by Pepperdine law professor Douglas Kmiec apologized for then candidate Barack Obama's pro-abortion record. Now, a new group of Catholics professors are leading a new effort to get the pro-abortion activist re-elected.
Kmiec, the former Malta ambassador who resigned from his position after he was found to be derelict in his duties, will not be leading the charge. Ref. Source 6
Poll: Obama Losing More Support Among Catholic Voters
Obama has already turned off Catholic voters with his HHS mandate forcing Catholic employers to pay for or refer women for drugs that can cause abortions and for contraception and sterilizations. Now, a new poll released today by a pro-life group shows what support Obama has left is eroding further.
American Life League commissioned a nationwide telephone survey of 900 self-identified Catholic registered voters - an August 15-19 poll conducted by ccAdvertising, a polling firm based in Centreville, Virginia. Ref. Source 4
Obama Rejects Catholic Leader for Democratic Convention Prayer
Timothy Cardinal Dolan will deliver the benediction at the Republican Party convention but, in a slight to Catholics, pro-abortion President Barack Obama rejected Cardinal Dolan's similar offer of a prayer at the Democratic convention.
Dolan told Democrats he would be "grateful" to deliver a blessing in Charlotte, according to the New York Post, but Obama turned him down.
Dolan - considered the top Catholic official in the nation, as head of the Archdiocese of New York and president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops - tipped off Democrats a few weeks ago that he had agreed to deliver the prime-time benediction at the Republican convention in Tampa next week, Dolan's spokesman Joseph Zwilling told The Post. Already, a Catholic University of America professor is under fire for claiming Obama is pro-life and saying he deserves re-election. Now, the Obama re-election campaign has released a new vide that one leading pro-life Catholic activist calls "laughably lame" in its attempt to "gin up support for his "Catholics for Obama" group."
