The most disturbing aspect of these "czars" is that they are completely unconstitutional. They are not elected, nor are they confirmed by the Senate. They just have far-reaching executive powers, and are able to make and/or break companies and individuals with impunity.
I don't even remember which President started this. However, Obama obviously is taking it much further than anyone else has.

Well, when we illegally start nationalizing banks and car companies, the natural next step is to create governmental control over those things. I just cant wait for one of these highly compensated executives to sue the government for their bonus. What we need is the debt czar. One that can figure out a clever way to not cut any programs (because we just cant do that...elections coming soon) and create 500 Billion USD to pay for the interest next year (20% of the take from the IRS in one given year) not to mention we got to pay for the new health care (whatever that looks like). Oh, and he needs to pledge to put back every dollar that we loaned out to the bottom line. Our ever expanding debt was tolerable as long as the GNP continued to climb at a nice level. We are in a recession now and cannot shoulder this debt for long or painful decisions will need to be made.
However, with our continually campaigning government...we will wait too long to do something. This guy never stops campaigning. He has never quit since being elected. He breaks promises from his previous campaign, smiles and the media throws kisses.
Oh and a bit of info on executive orders:
Wikipedia Source 5
Been around since 1789, so basically every president has issued them.
Started keeping record of the number after the "Emancipation Proclaimation", which was no 1 in the accounting.
Truman's order placing the steel mills under government control during the war was deemed unconstitutional as it was trying to make law.
We are now at like 13,500+ and counting...
Franklin Roosevelt kicked out over 3.4k of them by himself!
I knew that this ability had been around for a while. I just never knew how long! Actually, if you check out one of the links from the site listed, you can see that the trend over the last several years has been to issue less and less of these. Most presidents are averaging about 300 in a 2 term service.

I think it is okay to debate about Obama and his job as President but is absolutely unacceptable when the racists use this opportunity to hurt him. Disgusting.

Newscoma posted details of a racist email sent from Sherri Goforth, legislative aid for Sen. Diane Black (R-Gallatin). The email depicts the Presidents of the United States with President Barack Obama as a pair of eyes in a black background. I spoke with Sherri Goforth minutes ago to confirm she sent this email. She confirmed she had sent it and also said she had received a letter of reprimand from her superiors but said she will stay on the job. When I asked her if she understood the controversial nature of the photo, Goforth would only say she felt very bad about accidentally sending it to the wrong list. When I gave her a second chance to address the controversial nature of the email, she again repeated that she only felt bad about sending it to the wrong list of people. "I went on the wrong email and I inadvertently hit the wrong button," Goforth told NIT. "I"m very sick about it, and it's one of those things I can't change or take back... |

Despite Campaign Promises, President Obama Adopts President Bush's Policy of Secrecy
In his first several months in office, Obama has embraced Bush administration justifications to keep secret key government information. Most recently, the Secret Service rejected requests from two organizations for public access to White House visitors logs. The logs document the West Wing meetings that have helped shape Obama's policies on banking regulation, environmental policy, economic recovery and foreign affairs. The group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a lawsuit yesterday against the Obama administration, seeking the release of the visits by coal company executives to the White House. Of course he is going to keep the secrecy just like we have the senate introducing a bill in the senate to over turn the term limit rules. I believe that it is bill H.J. Res.5 This is to repeal the 22 article of the amendment. I believe it is in the hands of a subcommittee right now.
With that being said I want to be the cookie Czar.
He was pondering about fatherhood, the absence of his own father in his life and his own imperfections as a father.

In a PARADE essay out Sunday on the meaning of fatherhood, President Obama says he has been an imperfect father and has suffered from missing out on his own dad. In the essay titled, "We Need Fathers To Step Up," Obama acknowledges the impact on his life from the absence of his own father and reflects on mistakes he has made as a father. "I have lost count of all the times, over the years, when the demands of work have taken me from the duties of fatherhood," he wrote. "There were many days out on the campaign trail when I felt like my family was a million miles away, and I knew I was missing moments of my daughters' lives that I'd never get back. It is a loss I will never fully accept." The essay echoed a theme that Obama first revealed in a letter he wrote to his daughters two days before his inauguration. In the letter, which was also published in PARADE, Obama explained that he spent so much time away from them to run for president so they and every other American child can have a better life. "I know that you've both had a lot of fun these last two years on the campaign trail," he said. "But I also know that it hasn't always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn't make up for all the time we've been apart. I know how much I've missed these past two years." Obama encouraged his daughters to be selfless and pursue social justice. "These are the things I want for you -- to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world," he wrote. "And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That's why I've taken our family on this great adventure." In this weekend's essay, Obama explained how his father's absence made him realize the importance of fatherhood. "I came to understand that the hole a man leaves when he abandons his responsibility to his children is one that no government can fill," he wrote. "We can do everything possible to provide good jobs and good schools and safe streets for our kids, but it will never be enough to fully make up the difference." |
