President's TV address to students drawing fire

A planned back-to-school greeting from President Barack Obama challenging students to work harder has become the latest flash point in partisan politics, with critics accusing the president of trying to brainwash children. Ref. Source 6

We had to sign a form granting permission for our kids to watch the speech. Interestingly enough, they still haven't shown it at the school, and when they do they will split it in half and watch part one day and the last part the next day. I read the text of the speech and have no objections.

As the defacto head of the democratic party, Obama and Co need to start seriously listening to the voices in the town halls and the unexpected mass that was on his doorstep this weekend:

The immediate lumping of anyone with a difference of opinion to the power drunk Speaker of the House and the Messiah to that of nazis or right wing conspiracists that are trying to make things look much worse than they are has got to stop. No one in government could arrange things this well...they just arent capable. These are real people that are looking at the wholesale selling of their constitution and saying...whoa...we didnt vote for that change.

I really love this quote from the article because I think it expresses how a great deal of those, even though she didnt, that swung their votes towards Obama are feeling now:

QUOTE
Ruth Lobbs, 57, a schoolteacher from Jacksonville, Fla., said she flew to Washington on Saturday to protest how she believes the government has violated the Constitution. She said she did not vote for the president, adding that her anger has been building for years.

"It's more than Obama - this isn't a Republican or a Democratic issue," Ms. Lobbs said as she held a yellow flag that declared, "Don't Tread on Me."

People are looking around and seeing government starting to show up everywhere and dont like it. Most of us americans are leary of our government and its abilities. We want to see as little of them in our lives as possible. The federal government just continues to grow. Ask anyone that is 40 or younger if they expect to get any social security money when they retire...they dont because they know it is a Ponzi scheme the government has run for decades and will fail soon. We got the Patriot Act. We now own GM. We basically own or are significant interest holders of several banks. The best part is that the government that now owns the banks is largely the one that legislated their failures. So I agree with Ruth Lobbs...DONT TREAD ON ME...anymore! Those words mean liberty and that is what most of us in the US want and always have.

I had a phone call yesterday from a group called "Citizens United," taking a poll about Obama's fading popularity. (They used Dick Morris' recorded voice to relay their message, which was a bad move, in my opinion.) They want to know if I think Obama's falling rating is going help or hurt the conservative message. They wanted me to send them $200 to help fight their battles. I told this slick, fast-talking pollster that there is a Recession on - did she really think I had $200 to send to a Political Action Committee to fatten up Dick Morris' wallet? They are out of their minds.

True Colors
By Bill Noxid

Although this country has remained steeped in hypocrisy and denial since its inception, a Black Man as President has made that increasingly and painfully obvious. - The treatment of and response to this President every time he opens his mouth paints a painful but accurate portrait of American Racism, and it is long past time to face it. That article is absolute trash. Since the guy cannot argue the facts of the matter, he drops back on the "racist" card. Unfortunately, this is the normal quality of writing from that website.

Nomi Prins: "Obama Banking Too Much on Banks"

President Obama visited Wall Street Monday to promote a regulatory overhaul of the US financial system. The visit came on the one-year anniversary of the collapse of the investment bank Lehman Brothers. Lehman's bankruptcy set off a series of events across the financial markets, leading to a full-scale economic meltdown. Speaking at Federal Hall, Obama promoted Democratic proposals for new financial oversight and a consumer protection agency to protect Americans from unfair loans, but Nomi Prins, an investment banker turned journalist, says Obama's proposed reforms don't go deep enough.
