Poll says Obama is most-admired in U.S.
WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama is the man Americans admired most in 2009, a USA Today/Gallup Poll finds, while Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are virtually tied as most-admired woman. The close finish by Clinton, named by 16 percent in the open-ended survey, and Palin, named by 15 percent, reflects the nation's partisan divide. Clinton was cited by nearly three in 10 Democrats but only 6 percent of Republicans, Palin by a third of Republicans but less than 1 percent of Democrats. Ref. Source 5
President Obama said today
WASHINGTON - President Obama said today that the nation faces "a challenge of the utmost urgency" in the face of continued al-Qaeda attempts to "kill Americans." Speaking on the attempted airline bombing plot on Christmas Day, Obama also asserted that the government had enough information to foil the attempt, but the intelligence community "failed to connect the dots." Obama also said he was suspending the transfer of Guantanamo detainees from Yemen. The attack raised concerns about Yemen, because the suspect claimed to have been acting on instructions from al-Qaeda operatives there. Ref. USAToday
"Obama Has Kept the Machine Set on Kill" - Journalist and Activist Allan Nairn Reviews Obama's First Year in Office
In an extended interview, award-winning journalist and activist Allan Nairn looks back over the Obama administration's foreign policy and national security decisions over the last twelve months. "I think Obama should be remembered as a great man because of the blow he struck against white racism," Nairn says. "But once he became president"¦Obama became a murderer and a terrorist, because the US has a machine that spans the globe, that has the capacity to kill, and Obama has kept it set on kill. He could have flipped the switch and turned it off"¦but he chose not to do so." He continues, "In fact, as far as one can tell, Obama seems to have killed more civilians during his first year than Bush did in his first year, and maybe even than Bush killed in his final year." Obama tax flip flop
President Obama sure sounded like he was for the everyman on the campaign trail when he pledged 'no taxes' on 95% of working Americans. Of course, he doesn't seem to count indirect taxation as a tax. For example, when he breaks his promise and decides to go through with a tax on so called Cadillac insurance plans, that is a tax on millions of Americans. And contrary to popular belief, subscribing to a Cadillac plan doesn't necessarily mean you are a fat cat millionaire. Many people sacrifice elsewhere in order to have a great health plan for their families. This will break their backs. Ref. Source 1
Obama Poll
WASHINGTON - As he nears the one-year point of his presidency, Barack Obama gets middling marks from most Americans but credit for governing in difficult times. A USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Jan. 8-9 shows President Obama with 50% or higher approval for handling foreign affairs and terrorism, but 50% or more disapproval on health care and the economy. On handling the situation in Afghanistan there is an almost even divide: 48% approve-47% disapprove. USA TODAY asked these questions and others in a survey of 2,014 adults for an analysis of Obama's standing on the first anniversary of his inauguration Wednesday. The results were used to sort Americans into five broad groups with like-minded attitudes, from those with the most positive views of Obama and the country's future to those with the direst ones.
