Obama's new strategy...

When everything else fails, go back to your bread and butter. That's what the Obama team is doing and they've laid out their 3 step plan to making people not despise this administration anymore. One of the steps involves changing the President's backgrounds for when he speaks. This isn't going to end well. Glenn goes over the image recovery efforts by the President and his team. Ref. Hats off to the administration for realizing that this is the cleanest and most sensible way to get more energy and quickly without dependence on gas or coal:

international QUOTE
By Jeff Mason

WASHINGTON, Feb 16 (Reuters) - The White House is working hard to advance climate change legislation in Congress and hopes an announcement to jumpstart the nuclear power industry will appeal to Republican skeptics, a top adviser to President Barack Obama said.

Obama will announce on Tuesday an $8.3 billion loan guarantee to help Southern Co build two reactors, a move that the administration hopes will invigorate the nuclear power industry after nearly three decades in which no new plants have been built.

Carol Browner, Obama's top energy and climate adviser, said she was hopeful about progress on energy and climate legislation that is currently stalled in the you.S. Senate.

"I'm always optimistic, as is the president," Browner told Reuters Insider in an interview.

"We're working hard, and we're encouraged by the conversations that are going on. Obviously this is very important legislation and we're going to do everything we can to make it happen," she said.

Obama, a Democrat, is pushing for a law that would cap greenhouse gas emissions from industry and expand the use of renewable energy such as wind and solar.

Browner said that Republicans, many of whom oppose the climate bill, should take note of Obama's efforts to reach out on the issue of nuclear energy -- a top priority among key opposition lawmakers such as John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate in 2008.

"We also hope that Republicans and others, supporters of nuclear (power), will take note that the administration is prepared to provide leadership on issues that are important to solving our energy future and creating a different energy future," she said.

"There are issues that have long been important to many Republicans where we're prepared to take important steps."

EPA FIGHT, NUCLEAR JUMPSTART

One issue where the administration will not budge, however, is on the Environmental Protection Agency's right to regulate greenhouse gases, an option Obama is preserving in case Congress does not act.

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska is spearheading legislation that would prevent the EPA from having that regulatory power.

"We will work against that. We do not want to see that passed," Browner said.

Supporters of nuclear power argue more reactors will be needed for the United States to tackle global warming effectively because nuclear is a much cleaner energy source than coal-fired power plants, which spew greenhouse gases.

Nuclear power is controversial, however, because of its radioactive waste, which is now stored on site at reactor locations around the country.

The two reactors, which some experts estimate will cost $8.8 billion to build, could be in service in 2016 and 2017.

"What we're really doing is jumpstarting the nuclear industry in this country," Browner said, referring to the loan guarantees.

She declined to name a timeline for future announcements.

"There is more money available. Congress gave the Department of Energy about $18 billion in 2005. The last administration didn't use it. We've been using it, and there are more loan guarantee applications in the queue, so we'll see what happens," she said.

This is actually a smart but bold move on Obama's part as it will definitely not carry a lot of favor with certain sections of his support base.

"A Bad Day for America": Anti-Nuclear Activist Harvey Wasserman Criticizes Obama Plan to Fund Nuclear Reactors

President Obama has pledged $8.3 billion in loan guarantees needed to build the first nuclear reactors in nearly three decades. The move, along with a tripling of nuclear loan guarantees in the President's budget, represents a new federal commitment to the nuclear power sector. We speak to independent journalist and longtime anti-nuclear activist Harvey Wasserman, who helped found the grassroots movement against nuclear power in the United States in the 1970s. Ref. international QUOTE
"Obama's big problem," a senior Democrat told me, "is that four times as many people watch Fox News as watch CNN."

international QUOTE
Mr Obama benefited in his campaign from an idiotic level of idolatry, in which most of the media participated with an astonishing suspension of cynicism. The sound of the squealing of brakes is now audible all over the American press; but the attack is being directed not at the leader himself, but at those around him. There was much unconditional love a year or so ago of Rahm Emanuel, Mr Obama's Chief of Staff; oleaginous profiles of this Chicago political hack, a veteran of that unlovely team that polluted the Clinton White House, appeared in otherwise respectable journals, praising the combination of his religious devotion, his family-man image, his ruthless operating technique and his command of the vocabulary of profanity. Now, supporters of the President are blaming Mr Emanuel for the failure of the Obama project, not least for his inability to construct a deal on health care.

This went down badly with friends of Mr Emanuel, notably with Mr Emanuel himself. His partisans, apparently taking dictation from him, have filled newspaper columns and blogs with uplifting accounts of the Wonder of Rahm: as one of them put it, "Emanuel is the only person preventing Obama from becoming Jimmy Carter".

international QUOTE
The root of the problem seems to be the management of expectations. The magnificent campaign created the notion that Mr Obama could walk on water. Oddly enough, he can't.

international QUOTE
There are lessons from the stumbling of Mr Obama for our own country as we approach a general election. Vacuous promises of change are hostages to fortune if they cannot be delivered upon to improve the living conditions of a people. The slickness of campaigning that comes from a combination of heavy funding and public relations expertise does not inevitably translate into an ability to govern. There is no point a nation's having the audacity of hope unless it also has the sophistication and the will to turn it into action. As things stand, Barack Obama and America under his leadership do not.

There is a lot of truth to the article.

Bret Baier grills Obama on healthcare

Last night President Obama returned to the 'scene of the crime' as he called it, to answer some of the allegedly erroneous claims made by 'Glenn Beck and others' at Fox. Bret did an awesome job of asking question after question, keeping the President squirming most of the time. Glenn plays one clip in particular that stood out, which seemed to show Obama employing Saul Alinsky. Ref. Source 2

Obama: There was an earthquake in Hawaii

Also during Bret Baier's interview there was an odd point brought up by the President. While debating the bribes included in the bill, he stood by the Louisiana Purchase and said it actually helped Katrina victims and the Hawaii earthquake. Did he mean Haiti? Hope not - that isn't one of the 57 states. Ref. Source 9

Obama: I guess I can't govern now

Barack Obama was so blinded in his pursuit of government healthcare, he apparently forgot about his own advice: you can't govern by jamming something through. So, by his own admission, Barack Obama will no longer be able to effectively govern. Considering the White House is filled with 60's radical type thinkers - things should get very very interesting. Spanked, then punched

The President spent nearly every ounce of political capital he had to jam this healthcare bill down America's throat. He said himself this bill would make or break his presidency. Now that it's through, one would think he has it made. But, apparently the President isn't satisfied with spanking middle America once. Nope, he's countering immediately with an immigration sucker punch. Glenn explains why the President is giving America the 1-2 combo on radio today. Ref. Source 7
