President Barack Obama has scheduled a news conference for 11 a.m. Monday to discuss efforts to to work out a deal to reduce the nation's budget deficit.

The White House also announced that congressional leaders will return to the White House on Monday to continue talks on a deficit reduction deal and raising the government's debt ceiling.

Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and top Republicans and Democrats from the House and Senate met for more than an hour on Sunday evening to discuss a deal. Ref. CNN

President Obama is getting yet another assist from the media during the debt limit debate, as reporters practically begged him to solve the problem. Obama's press conference was simply amazing -- here's a portion of it: OBAMA:"The public is not paying close attention to the ins and outs of how a Treasury auction goes. They shouldn't. They're worrying about their family, they're worrying about their jobs. They're worrying about their neighborhood. They have got a lot of other things on their plate. We're paid to worry about it." The latest example comes from Obama's famous campaign story about how his mom, suffering from cancer, struggled in her last days with insurance companies. The truth is quite shockingly different. President Obama says that deficit reduction proposal presented by bipartisan group of senators offers "potential for bipartisan consensus" for getting an agreement on raising the country's debt ceiling and reducing the country's long-term debt.

Obama was reacting to a plan by what had been known as the "Gang of Six" that the president said included spending cuts and "modifications" to Medicare and Social Security and increase revenue through tax reform. The U.S. Will hit its debt ceiling on August 2 and Obama characterized negotiations as in "the 11th hour." The president said, "We don't have any more time for symbolic gestures or posturing." Ref.
