Of all the hymns in the LDS hymn Book, which one do you like to sing the most and why?
My favourite hymn is 129 "Where Can I turn for Peace?" everytime I sing this song, it makes me feel that the Savior understands all my pains and that He's the only one that fully does.
"Where Can I turn for peace,
Where is my solace when other sources cease to make me whole.
When with a wounded heart, anger, or malice,
I draw myself apart, searching my soul
Where, when my aching grows,
Where when I languish,
Where, in my need to know, where can I run?
Where is the quiet hand to calm my anguish?
Who, who can understand
He, only One.
He answers privately,
Reaches my reaching,
In my Gethsemane, Savior and Friend
Gentle the peace he finds for my beseeching.
Constant he is and kind
Love without end."
I KNOW THAT MY REDEEMER LIVES
I know that my Redeemer lives;
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, he lives, who once was dead.
He lives, my ever living head.
He lives to bless me with his love.
He lives to plead for me above.
He lives my hungry soul to feed.
He lives to bless in time of need.
He lives to grant me rich supple,
He lives to guide me with his eye.
He lives to comfort me when faint.
He lives to hear my soul's complaint.
He lives to silence all my fears.
He lives to wipe away my tears.
He lives to calm my troubled heart.
He lives, all blessings to impart.
He lives, my kind, wise, heavenly friend.
He lives and loves me to the end.
He lives, and while he lives, I'll sing,
"I know that my Redeemer lives."
He lives, all glory to his name!
He lives, my Savior, still the same;
He lives my mansion to prepare.
He lives to bring me safely there.
He lives, all glory to his name!
He lives, my Savior, still the same;
O sweet the joy this sentence gives:
"I know that my Redeemer lives!"
He lives all glory to his name!
He lives, my savior, still the same;
O sweet the joy this sentence gives:
"I know that my Redeemer lives!"
This brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it, read it, sing it. It is just one of many that I love.
Because I have been given much,
I too must give.
Because of thy great bounty Lord,
each day I live,
I will divide my gifts from thee,
with every brother that I see,
Who has a need of help from me!
This is from memory, but I think I got the words right!
I really like "Where Can I Turn for Peace" as well, but I also love some of the hymns we never seem to sing in Church. For example, "I Saw a Mighty Angel Fly" is a beautiful hymn about the Restoration. I really like "Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing" from the 1948 hymnal, and I think my favorite at the moment is "When First the Glorious Light of Truth," which is in the 1948 hymnal as well. Hopefully I will find my hymnal so I can post the lyrics soon.
Excellent, excellent songs! Particularly "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "Where Can I Turn For Peace." One of my favorites is
"Dearest Children, God Is Near You
Dearest children, God is near you,
Watching o'er you day and night,
And delights to own and bless you,
If you strive to do what's right.
He will bless you, He will bless you
If you put your trust in him.
Dearest children, holy angels
Watch your actions night and day,
And they keep a faithful record
Of the good and bad you say.
Cherish virtue! Cherish virtue!
God will bless the pure in heart.
Children, God delights to teach you
By his Holy Spirit's voice.
Quickly heed its holy promptings.
Day by day you'll then rejoice.
Oh, prove faithful, Oh prove faithful
To your God and Zion's cause.
