That's really hard to say. From a factual standpoint you are married until the other person is dead then you are no longer dead. Widow means you were married.

Depends on if you believe that marriage extends beyond this life (Which I do).
I believe that if someone wants to consider themselves still married after their spouse dies, then for them, they are still married. God must have a provision for the marriage relationship to continue. I love my wife to much to believe any other way.

Comments: My boyfriend of 16 months and I have discussed marrying but he hit me with the news that he can't remarry because he is still married to his first wife although she passed away 4 years ago I'm not sure if he really believes this or if its an excuse.

Comments: God has nothing to do with when marriage ends - the Romans - yes the Romans - were very legalistic - and to them it made sense to end the LEGAL definition of marriage at the time when one partner passed on.
Of course Christians decided it was more than that.
I was married for 21 years, together for 23 - I am married till the end of time itself.
