I'm surprised no one cared to comment on this one.

But yeah, I remember that and same things happened last December, exactly a year after the boy died. It was like the whole country was in war with all the fights between the police and anarchists, mostly. I never even knew there were so many of them in Greece; it was only later I found out that they had called anarchists from all over Europe to aid them.

I happen to study in Thessaloniki so I was pretty much caught up with the events there when it happened, both times, it was quite shocking. The fact that they were trying to cover it up in such a way was most disturbing. There were many protests, and I was in several of them so I had a pretty good idea of what went on. I don't think I'll be able to rid myself of the resent I still have towards policemen anymore, I'm afraid.

Wow how come you participated in some of these protests? You weren't afraid? I surely don't think I could participate in something like this specially how the whole thing got kind of out of control there.

I'm not sure how much the media have shown and said about the protests abroad, but I bet they have emphasized on those made by the anarchists. Well, of course there were several other protests that had absolutely nothing to do with them and were much more organized and certainly less chaotic.

The resent I have towards the police is exactly because they made no discrimination between the peaceful protests and the ones made by anarchists, which was sad to witness and experience. They were very provocative and did unnecessary, in my opinion, things in order to deal with the riots. And of course, what they did was make things worse and cause more chaos.

And well, you're not that afraid when you join in with so many people and for such a cause.

You are a brave woman Amaruil! And yes I understand perfectly what you are saying about the police, unfortunately they seem to behave like that all over the world including here in the US. Who are these anarchists anyway?

Hmm you had better search for anarchism if you are interested, because it is a whole different matter. I wouldn't even be able to explain it properly to you.

EDIT: I should have added several things to what I said yesterday however, my mistake. Amongst the protests made by anarchists were the usual hooligans who take advantage of every chaotic situation to create more trouble. There were many things that happened with these hooligans and one of them included a little scandal, which should not have come as a shock, because it was a common secret for many years; there were several videos that showed the police working with several hooded men. Those were ordered to participate in the protests and create havoc, by breaking up everything they wished. Some were even policemen dressed as such who wanted to have their fun.

Those things happen everywhere. The point is that usually a government takes advantage of such a situation and will likely make it look much worse by all means possible so that people will forget the major problems they had so far in their country and focus on this one. It is just good to know those things and be able to judge a situation with a bit more suspicion; there are so many things hidden underneath that can shock anyone.

Thanks for the explanation it seems like everywhere there are similar issues I never thought of Greek folks being involved in riots though but again I don't know much about the country.
