What is Democracy?
Consider the following quote and place your thoughts.
Democracy [is] when the indigent, and not the men of property, are the rulers.
-- Aristotle
I disagree with this statement. The poor or the indigent are not in amy more power than the land owners. A true democracy hold all equal and all have equal voice. No one is above another in power. If you have one person who can persuade others to their way of thinking then that person may hold more sway but not more power. Then again that is my opinion only.
A democracy is rule of the sheep, by the sheep, for the sheep. A democracy is a severely turbulent and unpredictable form of government where everyone has an equal voice, but majority rules. If someone can convince more than half of the people to want something, they may have it, regardless of any law. The poor may have power over those of status, but only if they are in the majority, and all want the same thing.
To one that advised him to set up a democracy in Sparta, "Pray," said Lycurgus, "do you first set a democracy in your own house."
