One may wonder how France has seemed to become one of the front-lines in the War on Terror. France has a very large immigrant population, a vestige from its colonial days. Algeria was an important region in France and there are a lot of Algerians. There has also been a huge influx of refugees lately as well. A small percentage of these people have been radicalized. A small percentage of a whole lot of people leaves a huge pool from which to recruit. In addition, there is a fairly substantial percentage of people who are not themselves yet radicalized or are not willing to undertake in violence or put themselves at risk, but who still tacitly support the radicals.
Also, France has been a staunch ally in the War on Terror. I hate that term. How can you have a war on terror? When one's neighbor threatens to beat you with a baseball bat if your dog poops in his yard again it's a tactic of terror. We need to name it what it is, the War on Radical Islam. Anyway, France was front and center when we bombed Libya… heck, they helped push us in. They have been at our side in Syria. They helped us in both Afghanistan and Iraq (First time). They are our ally and since we are a somewhat harder target than Europe, especially France, terrorists congregate there. This makes France a prime target.
