Well karma does come around...
A close friend commits suicide and now his son commits suicide. He will now have to live with the realization that both of their deaths weigh pretty heavily on his hands. The basic life-in prison sentence will give him plenty of time for reflection. They always say that it is cruel when you out live you children. I cant imagine out living them and being a main component for why they are dead.

Dear Mr. Ponzi, I mean Mr. Madoff, did you enjoy your Christmas in prison knowing that you have embarrassed yourself, your family and even caused your own son to commit suicide?

It is a good thing he didn't get life in prison. That Nov 2139 release date has to look like it is just around the corner. It would be convenient to believe that just Bernie was behind of of the swindling, but you just know that there is a little more blame to spread about for this one. Remember, not one stock was purchased. They cannot find one trade that was made with Bernie's fund, but it made ficticious millions.

I am surprised he has not killed himself yet because in these sort of cases the person always end up committing suicide specially a rich guy like he was.

The owners of the New York Mets have reached an agreement to pay $162 million to settle claims related to the Bernard Madoff case.
In the suit against the Mets, attorneys for the court-appointed trustee in the case alleged that team owners Fred Wilpon, Saul Katz and their partners engaged in "willful blindness." That's another way of saying that the Mets knew that Madoff's investment firm was a front for a pyramid-style scam but chose to invest with him anyway
People who invested with Madoff were cheated out of more than $17 billion.
Madoff pleaded guilty in 2009 to running the largest Ponzi scheme in history and was sentenced to 150 years in prison.
The trustee has collected about $9 billion of the money lost to Madoff's scheme, all of which will be returned to the victims. Ref. CNN
