Eight yachts in the Volvo Ocean round-the-world race left Cochin, India, for Singapore. The 1,950 nautical-mile third leg of the race is expected to take 9 to 11 days. The yachts docked at Cochin after the leader, Ericsson 4, arrived Dec. 1. The race ends in June in St. Petersburg, Russia, after 10 legs and 6 in-port regattas.
