What Christmas Means

"Christmas means giving. The Father gave his Son, and the Son gave his life. Without giving there is no true Christmas, and without sacrifice there is no true worship."
-- Gordon B. Hinckley, "What Shall I Do Then with Jesus Which Is Called Christ?" Ensign, Dec. 1983, 3
This world is full of so much marketing with the intent to make money that the real meaning behind Christmas is almost lost despite a few efforts by some to make it what it really is about. We try as parents to teach our boys that it is not about how many gifts or type of gifts you receive but what you can give. For boys with Autism this is not an easy concept to understand, for them all the marketing means that they are supposed to have that latest toy they see on television. In the end they are quite happy with what they get despite it not being what the commercials say it should be.
For me, it's all about family. Forget the presents! I'd rather just hang out together cooking, playing games, and just visiting. All that gift buying is just a nuisance. I want to see, hear, and hug my family members all day long. I don't get to do that very much.
