BYU students learn to assimilate after divorce

"Once you label yourself as divorced, sometimes I"m afraid that's all that people can see," Jones said. "Divorce is just something that happened to me, it's not who I am. When I would speak with people, the divorce would be at the front of my mind and I would wonder if somehow they knew, as if I looked different because of the divorce." Ref. Source 7

Well, I guess that in the context of eternal marriage, divorce must mean that a person or persons now no longer wish to be exalted with their spouse, which is kind of strange, when you think about it. In the next life we shall be perfect, so what's not to like? Brigham Young once said that when we see our spouses in the the resurrection, we shall have no complaints. I tend to agree.

Hey tragula. Do you think is that simple? I don't know because I'm not married but I can imagine a woman or a man who goes through physical and emotional abuse in the hands of their spouse and I don't see anything strange about not wanting to be exalted with their spouse, it's more... I think they're justified.

Mormon Divorce

"It was such a simple and beautiful answer. But to me, it seemed I had been asked to perform a miracle. Six painful years as a stepparent, and my subsequent divorce, had left my heart numb-especially to the idea of trying to love someone else's children again.

"Throughout the night I tried to reconcile the conflict between what I knew the Lord wanted me to do and what I felt I could not do. It was only after hours of praying that I was convinced by the Spirit that I could change. The next day, seated on the bench with the Sunbeams, I looked at the questioning faces of the children sitting near me. I felt nervous yet determined as I said over and over in my mind, I"m going to love you.
-- Patricia P. Pinegar, "Children: Our Priceless Converts," Ensign, Feb. 1999, 8
