I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Since my other post about switching glories brought some good opinions I decided to place another one here.
Can the most evil people still be saved? Someone that commits genocide like Hitler, could he still reach the Celestial kingdom?
I see two separate questions there, as being saved and reaching the Celestial Kingdom are not synonymous in my opinion. I believe that Hitler will definitely be saved. By this I mean that he will most likely inherit a kingdom of glory, as most open-minded free thinkers would agree that Hitler was fueled by a seriously distorted and egregiously simplistic worldview.
There will come a time when he will see things as they really are, as is the case for us all, and he will be his own accuser in the day of judgement. And, as is also the case for everyone, Christ will be his advocate. I personally believe his glory will be telestial, but we have no idea to what extent events in the spirit world affect one's eternal path.
We have evidence that repentance occurs in the spirit world, but it appears to be much more difficult to achieve than in the physical world.
The Atonement is universal. It provides the way that anyone who sins can repent and be forgiven, and receive Celestial Glory. It even covers Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Mao and all the other human demons.
The key though is repentance. How many of those demons will, or would, repent?
Like others have said, all well be saved (gain one of the kingdoms of glory). But to gain the CK one must follow the Plan of Salvation, and repent and partake of the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
This is offered to all. It is up to us to accept it, and live it.
Those that choose not to, are judged accordingly.
The Atonement CAN cover all people and all sins. BUT those that reject Christ and His Atonement (those that go to the Telestial Kingdom) are those that reject Christ and his Saving Grace. These are the ones that are thrust down to Hell (Outer Darkness) for a time to suffer for there sins, but they are suffering just enough to qualify them to gain Telestial Glory.
So these could be covered by the Atonement, but the way the plan of salvation is set up, those that reject the atonement don't get access to it. (which makes sense)
Many topics discussed in this forum are not central to the gospel, but the atonement is at the very heart of it. As such, it is essential to come to an understanding of the truth of the matter. Nighthawk spoke to the essence of the atonement better than I did - not just salvation, but exaltation is available to all who are willing to repent and approach the Father with a broken heart and contrite spirit.
The only way to arrive to a knowledge of this is through fervent prayer on the matter.
They way that "denying the holy ghost" is described in the scriptures implies that it is an extremely rare event. I've come to believe that those who meet this description are those who have had their calling and election made sure, and then rebelled against that more sure knowledge.
