AP - German billionaire Adolf Merckle threw himself in front of a train after his business empire, which included interests ranging from VW cars to pharmaceuticals to cement, ran into trouble in the global financial crisis, his family said Tuesday.

That is too bad. I wonder what was the reason really, that he was losing what he created, pride or because he owed a lot of money? Either way he leaves his crumbling empire for someone else to work out the mess.

When you ride on the backs of others your whole life to get what you want and then those backs break you try to walk on your own and then realize your own legs have suffered shrinkage and are unusable. That's probably how they feel. No money, no life worth living for.

That's a beautifully written and interesting perspective. I am curious as to what reasons a wealthy person would have to kill themself, although I can think of many.

The news report says why he killed himself, "...ran into trouble in the global financial crisis". He was in trouble. It wasn't just because he wasn't making money. He probably was going to owe a lot of people and now the son of a female left his family to pull up his slack.
