NVTC which is a US government agency in charge of translating foreign data stated to use the East sea on its profile page for South Korea.
When I heard that news, I was really pleased to hear it.
In the meantime, the term Sea of Japan is even used in the US test book. So Korea government and some groups made a request to use the correct name "the East Sea".
But, their request was not accepted and US and many other countries use incorrect name, "Sea of Japan", instead of the East Sea. It was too bad.
So, I wanted to express my thanks to US when they started using the name, the East Sea.
But the delight didn't last long. NVTC has reverted to using the Sea of Japan, less than a month after it first dropped that reference in favor of the East sea.
Why did NVTC do that? I can't understand.
Old maps and history books show the fact that the East Sea is correct and Dokdo(Dok island) is a Korean territory.
Though we have a firm ground, I don't know why many countries, even US, do not accept this fact.
