Love Without Liking Someone

Is it possible to love someone without liking them? I know we are supposed to love one another but does that include me also have to like the same things they like and want to be around them like a friend? Maybe I'm just prideful.

We do not not have to like the things people do but we still have to love them.

Thanks for answering I forgot that I even asked that! How do you love someone when you don't like them on that level though?

Love and liking is too different things. I love my children but I don't like when they disobey me for instance.

Someone Liking Love

This is an interesting topic. I agree, Love and liking are to different things. Love is not stage 2 of like. Take a bad relationship for example. Some husbands beat on there wives. Wives get abused. You ask if they like there husbands, you'll probably get a no. But then you ask, then why are you still with him? they'll most probably say because they love him.

I respectfully disagree Nazio with the example you provided. You're talking about a woman who is being psychologically abused as well therefore her concept of what love may be is quite different to what really is. If you come to the country where I live, you will even find women who say their husband beat them because they love them. The abuse is "speaking", not the person.

Answering the question, yes I think is possible to love someone even if you do not like them. You love them as children of God with weaknesses just like we have, we should try to separate the person from their acts (very hard to do).

Thanks for clearing that up for me LDS_Forever. That makes alot of sence. And hate the sin and not the sinner quote is relevant. Or in this case, you could change it to love the sinner, and no the sin

Interesting topic. Is there anything in the scriptures that separates liking from loving? If so, I haven't seen it.
