Raise In Three Days

This year in Institute we are studying the New Testament. I have studied many years and not been satisfied with what I could figure out about the last days in mortality of the Savior and His subsequent resurrection. Prophecy and His own words state He would be raised in three days. Scriptural accounts provide us with information suggesting that He died about three o'clock in the afternoon on Friday. The ninth hour as described by Matthew being counted from dawn at 6 AM to 3 PM. This is the day before Passover so it was Friday. He was arrested the night before on Thursday, and He was not found in the tomb by Mary,until the day after Sabbath, which was Sunday, Saturday being the seventh day, or Sabbath Day of rest. How is this three days? Somewhere I am missing something and hope someone can provide me with the solution to my query. Next week's lesson we are covering the sacrament, the atonement, and the Savior's supernal sacrifice and it would be a good thing if I understood the time factor better. CAn anyone help?

When Mary sees Him you will notice he said for her not to touch him. What she was seeing was Christ the Spirit.

Upon his visitation to the Apostles we get confirmation of His resurrection when he specifically asks the Apostles to feel the prints.

That is puzzling since His body was no longer in the tomb. If He had not been resurrected, where was it? Being resurrected is the reuniting of body and spirit so why would His body be somewhere else and not returned to His spirit? He said not to touch Him because he had not yet ascended to His Father. It seems to me that He was telling her that there is a protocol that He had to follow, seeing His Father and giving His report of His mission, before He could be touched by mortal hands. And that same day He showed Himself to many so the time period would remain the same. And it is still only two days. So puzzling.

After Christ's death and from what basic scripture tells us, He, who was now 'dead', went to the Spirit World to preach to those that are 'dead'. His body and where it went really has no bearing, since where your body or where mine goes also has no bearing on the reunification process. It is in my opinion that His body was 'taken up' just as the Plates were taken from Joseph for 'safekeeping' if you will. Keep in mind that Resurrection is an Ordinance. The process of such we have not been taught for obvious reasons. However, I will not go into that aspect much, I think we Discuss it in the Mature LDS Board.

What is so puzzling about this to you about this that out of all the possible items of Christ's life you would chose to microscope this one out?

Days Three Raise

You know, that is a good question. His love, testimony and miracles are evident to all and I have no doubt that all that is written of Him in the scriptures is true. He lived and He loved all, even the most unlovable...even Judas Escariot. It is evident in His behavior.

I think about how at the last supper He washed their feet, including Judas's knowing what he was about to do. And told him, "That do, do quickly." No reprimand, no scathing indictment, no pleading or reminder of their relationship. And all the apostles wanted to know if they were the guilty one. This information was garnered by John the Baptist to satisfy Peter's curiosity. For all of His apostles knew they were capable of such deceit but hoped it was not them. We know this because they asked, " Is it I?"

And at the end of this evening, He was arrested following the tortuous experience of Gethsemane. And even then, loved the soldier arresting him enough to heal the ear that impetuous Peter cut off. He said that we should love our enemies and He surely was the example.

Why do I want to know about this one little detail? I have been going through the last week of CHrist's life as presented in the gospels in class. And I do not know the answer to this and it can be predicted that surely someone will ask. And I have wondered, oh a long time. Not with doubt but without understanding. And I would like to.

Let's see, are we counting like exact 24 hours? Christ was crucified on Friday and rose on Sunday. That's three days really. It didn't say he will be raised after 72 hours has passed, just that on the third day.

Why Jesus told Mary not to "touch" him is simple. The word in the Greek for "touch" that is used here is to passionately embrace or to hold one from leaving. In other words the text in the original Greek implies that once Mary realized that it was Jesus, she grabbed and emotionally embraced him as to hold him from going. So what Jesus was saying was Mary please let me go I still have not ascended to the Father. The text implies that Mary embraced him and did not want to let go. It has nothing to do with his resurrected body or anything like that. It is simply a translation/context error within the King James Bible.
