It seems like these days families do not know what really is going on with their children. This girl called the police to tell them she is safe and sound and has not been abducted as previously reported. The police continue investigating on the matter.

Well, mystery solved. The girl "run away" to marry because her parents did not approve of the relationship.

QUOTE
Eighteen-year-old Rajdaye Dian Rampersad, who was at first reported missing from a temple in Point Fortin at the weekend, was yesterday enjoying wedded bliss with her husband Rikesh Ryan Ramjit, 27, the man who was accused of "kidnapping" her.

They were married about 70 hours after she was reported missing.

Relating her love affair with Ramjit, son of religious leader Rohan Ramjit of the Shiv-Shakti Mandir at Grant's Trace, Rousillac, Rampersad said: "I left my parents' home of my free will. I told my parents that we loved each other and wanted to get married, but they did not agree, because he was married before."

She added: "Nobody kidnapped me from Point Fortin. I walked out of the temple to Dam Road Junction and then I called my friends to pick me up. I did not talk to Ryan for 22 days. Only when they said I was kidnapped I called Baba (the pundit) to say where I was staying."

Rampersad's parents of Kanhai Road, Barrackpore, reported to police that she was taken out of the compound of the Dam Road Hindu temple in Point Fortin by two men on Friday morning. She denied the charge.

Slim, attractive and dressed in blue shalwar kameez (Indian outfit) with her centre hairline adorned with sindoor (vermilion), the mark of a married Hindu woman, Rampersad did not look threatened or brainwashed yesterday.

She openly admitted that she knew Ramjit for almost two years and they had a long-standing relationship, known to her mother. She said she had stayed a while at Ramjit's home before they "ran away" and that their "love for each other" was known to everyone they knew.

At the police station on Monday, Rampersad said: "The police asked me if I wanted to go with my parents or Baba and my husband and I chose to come with my husband."

They said they did not expect the marriage to be registered for another two weeks....

I cannot believe this girl is coming out with this story, it is not going to help her tainted reputation. Yeah, she was under a spell...blame it to the enchanted chain. rolleyes.gif

Locked in a bedroom, guarded by two women, 18-year-old Rajdaye Dian Rampersad was unable to contact her parents for 21 days.

She believes it was an enchanted chain which was wrapped around her neck and a diamond studded wedding ring, placed on her finger, which kept her from breaking free of a spell cast on her by a Hindu spiritual leader.

But while she struggled to break free of the curse, her parents were visiting another spiritual leader.

"My spiritual leader told me that the people who had her were doing something to her so that she would not come back home. But he told us that within 21 days she would get her senses back and she will come back," her mother, Bissoondaye Moona Rampersad, said yesterday.

And exactly 21 days later, the teenager called her mother's cellphone and asked to return home.

Rampersad was at her parents' Kanhai Trace, Barrackpore home yesterday. And with weary eyes, she recalled her ordeal and how she was forced to marry someone she did not love.

"I was at the temple that day (January 11) when the pundit and a woman came and pushed me into a silver car. They carried me to a house where I stayed until the weekend. I was locked inside a room and two women were guarding me. They only allowed me to come out to use the bathroom and shower. They even brought my food inside the room," she said yesterday.

Rampersad said she was then taken to Oropouche Police Station, where she was forced to tell officers that she ran away to marry and was not missing.

The teenager said she was then taken to the pundit's home, where he performed a Hindu religious ceremony, marrying her.

"It was not legal because we did not sign anything," she said.

But when the Express visited Rampersad days after she was reported missing, she appeared to be elated over the marriage. Rampersad said they loved each other and her parents were against the relationship because her husband had been married before....
