Vincenzo has it right. Storm chasers are very well aware that the storm can do some unpredictable things. They know where to place themselves to get the best video of the storm and be the safest while still being close. As a person that does not have direct access to doppler radar I would say that trying to outrun a tornado without knowing where it is going is foolish. You best bet is to take cover OUTSIDE your vehicle.
