Religious Attacks Are Personal Attacks?

Human make up is largely based on emotion. If two humans are discussing religion and one of them attacks the beliefs of the other based on factual sources they have found should the defending human see it as a personal attack on their belief or the religion as an organization?

Attacks Personal Attacks Religious

This is a hard question to answer without specific examples. It depends. My spiritual beliefs are very personal to me and I can become defensive over them.

There is a delineation between organized religion and spiritual beliefs. You can have one without the other, you see it all the time. But for many people, myself included, my spiritual beliefs and my religion are intertwined.

"Should" a person take it as a personal attack? Probably not. Will they? There is a very good chance of it. Particularly if the "factual source" is a jaded source based on fallacy and rumor. You see this all the time. Most common is the "attacker" has an agenda to prove the other wrong and is usually closed to any other perspective.

Rationally two people should be able to calmly discuss opposing views on religion without coming to figurative blows. But that would require both sides to be open and honest, allowing that the other person may never agree with their point of view, but also allowing the other person the right to believe differently. We have no power over what anyone believes except for ourselves. No amount of coercion or bullying can force a person to think they way we think they ought to.

This is why I don't like getting into talk religion. Everyone just starts aruging and good friends turns into enemies. Everyone always sees it personal.
