Comments: If the family got involved with people who destroyed all web links and related issues then how would they have released the names of the two people involved. There were no sources to evidence that the events actually took place or who authored the facts in the movie. Based on actual events could be a dramatization of related events, family being tortured etc. The movie is fictional in the scene that the names and events aren't factual how ever with so many related crimes in the USA it could have just been an adaptation of events that do happen. Not that these people were the victims of such events.

Comments: So... I do believe there were murders that took place of Kristen and James. When I first heard that the movie was based on true events (back in 2007) I went on-line and Googled their names. I got back many results saying that Kristen and James were murdered while staying at an isolated cabin after a wedding reception.
After I watched the movie on DVD in late 2008, I went back on-line to find more info and everything had been removed. Then I found out that the family paid to have all information removed. I thought it was very odd since there was already a movie and their names were used...I'm guessing that all info may be found in paper documents (maybe an old newspaper from 2005.) But I did see the stories and then they vanished!

I have to say that a movie that says it is based on true does not mean it happened. I find a lot of movies will say they are based on true events. That means something that you hear or see in that movie may actually be true. In these murders I think the only thing that is true is the fact that there was a cabin in the woods. I doubt that what happened there is true in any sense of the word.

Comments: I thought the real story might have been the Tate and Libianca murders. A lot of movies have references to the Manson murders. I mean the movie was a lot like what happened to Sharon Tate and the others in that house. I was just thinking the story could have been changed quite a bit to take from what really happened. Tide up and Stabbed to death by a young man and a couple of girls. The Libiancas were picked at random , tied up and stabbed to death. Those would make the movie true advents. Just was I was thinking when I saw the movie. This was just something I was thinking, I could have the whole thing wrong.

Comments: Just saw this film, did a search and came here. I'm reading that this is based on actual events, that its just fiction, that its fake and that its all true. I don't know what to believe but if that really happened to anyone they lived one hell of a nightmare.

Kntoran I was going to say the same thing. The "true" story bologna is just to attract more viewers and make the story more appealing.

True or not if anyone went through what the Hoyts did in the movie then that would be one heck of a fright night I hope I never experience.
