I like fishing these fellas in the spring since the are more plentiful in the creeks till the water starts to recede.
Generally I never have much luck floating any baits so I tend to use a slip sinker and let the bait slip down the stream. If it is very shallow and narrow I will try wet flies on a normal rod.
In my area one usually only sees then during the run other then in a lake. When in a a lake I will use spoon and spinner lures and troll for them. I do not have a depth finder or a down rigger so I simply use weights and trial and error.
In sunny day I run a bit shallower and use darker lures so that the fish can see them better as a shadow in the sun. Top baits in shallows work well as well.
