Fishing As A Competitive Sport

I know many think fishing is a game of luck with some skill but I say they are very wrong. I think it is a skill that has to be finely tuned to consistently produce fish.

Knowing how to read navigational maps, understanding the species you seek and even the feel for your line are difficult to master. Weather and moon phases are all critical on your trip.

I think the Bass Pro tournaments are the best example of this.

Do you watch these shows or believe it is just because they set up in special places that they manage to get such a large haul in every tourney or show?

Sport Competitive As Fishing

I know that fishing can be a very competitive sport. I know some fishermen who can drop a line in a sink of water and pull out a fish. They have shown me some of their tricks and now I am a better fisherman. I do know you have to be a very patient person to learn the tricks.

I doubt that I will ever join a competition as I am a fisherman who fishes to eat.

The tricks they learn where do they get their ability from trial and error or others?

Many of them are through trial and error after their fathers taught them and showed them some tricks.

I like watching the bass tournaments as they explain the hardware well and loads of action. We have salmon and rainbow derbies every year here. I am not aware of to many other tournament fishing done in my area that brings in international talent.

Mind you Hamilton did host a world championship for carp. It is one of the best spot to catch big carp. What other competitions are there out there?

Fishing As A Competitive Sport

Some sport fish are caught repeatedly, which may throw off population count. A new study reports that, for several species of oceanic sport fish, individual fish that are caught, released and recaught are more likely to be caught again than scientists anticipated. The findings raise some interesting questions for policy makers tasked with preserving sustainable fisheries. Source 9b.
