Mormon church working to contact missionaries in quake-riddled Japan

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reported Friday morning that with the exception of its Sendai mission, all missionaries were safe and accounted for. The challenge with the six-dozen Mormon missionaries serving in the Sendai mission is downed communications. Ref. Source 1

Some Missionaries to Return to Previously Evacuated Areas of Japan

Six weeks after a 9.0 earthquake and devastating tsunami hit Japan, some missionaries that were previously removed from the Japan Tokyo and Japan Sendai Missions will return to areas now considered safe within those missions. These missionaries will be transferred in the near future, with other missionaries likely returning as conditions continue to improve. Ref. Source 6

Church Expands Donations to Japan


Salt Lake City | 2011-11-16 | One day shy of eight months from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints traveled to a remote area along the coast of Tohoku, Japan, and presented equipment and supplies to the devastated fishermen in that region. The donation is in addition to the support already given by the Church in Sendai and other villages this year.
