Inauguration of Barack Obama Benediction
Did you notice that when the Benediction was being given there was a mass of people that started to leave? Anyone else started to pick up on that? President Obama was shown smiling a lot during the prayer.
Benediction at Obama 's inauguration
QUOTE |
, Rev. Joseph Lowery: 'Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen. Say Amen'... |

(one of the silliest lines I have ever heard in an inaugural speech) |
QUOTE |
You mean the silliest lines in a 'prayer' |
I was at work this morning and haven't heard or watched anything about the inauguration yet. Did someone actually say those lines as the closing prayer to the inauguration of the President of the United States? Who gave this "prayer"?
That's, like, kindergarten-level. I'm a little embarrassed that the whole world was watching that.

since when are blacks asked to get in back and brown not able to stick around (one of the silliest lines I have ever heard in an inaugural speech)? When will we get off the whole race issue and realize that Barrack Obama is not the Black President, but rather Barrack Obama is the President of the United States ? |

Comments: If you guys knew anything about history he was referring to the fact that black had to sit in the back of the bus. But I love how you all left the reference to Asian Americans out. The end of the prayer was simply restating what President Obama stands for: equality among all people of all different backgrounds because at the end of the day we are all AMERICANS. And if any of you were watching the coverage on TV you would have heard them say that people were leaving to beat the crowds not because the prayer was being said. its people like all of you that are making it about race. Not about having the best man for the job.
Yes, the speech was full of lovely metaphors that made everyone feel good because he said again that he is basically going to do something for everyone. Now that is a tall order.
Lisa, I think what you said is true, but the Rev said it in a way that makes it seem like that stopped today. "Black to the back" and "Brown cant stay around" have been gone for decades and were not waiting for the swearing in of Barak Obama.
All in all a nice speech.
He better get to work really quick if he is going to fulfill the only thing that would interest me if I voted for him...

On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics. |
