Writing With Ball Point Pens

Is it true that when you write with a ball point pen your hand writing deteriorates because you have to press down more than you would with a fountain pen?

I do not buy this. I write with the same amount of pressure as I do with a gel, marker, pencil or the ball point pen. I have not seen a change in my hand writing for the past 20 odd years.

I think yes as you have to take much more care when using a fountain pen or quill to keep things from smudging or blending into each other. Out writing style was based on the quill and fountain pens. As far as the pressing I am unsure that is and issue other then breakage.

I tried to write with a quill pen. I can not keep the ink in it so I made large smudge spots. I am much better with the ball point pen or pencil. Even a small fine tipped marker works for me.

Yes that is why the old hand writing techniques and rules were formed to prevent that while giving legible and a nice flow in the writing style. It was art not just a functionality. Pride in writing has been lost I think.

I can understand that point. I know that I could have learned to write in ink with a quill and ink pot but I was lucky enough that the ball pen came out before my dad would let me use his ink. I suppose I can always try it again someday.
