God and Country
Does Christianity teach nationalism that the saying "God and Country" is used together so often?
No I do not think so it is teaching us to be godly and to encourage our leaders to be as well. After all is God not our leader? Think of the old testament God chose the leaders and they were dedicated to him. Thus God lead the Jews and times were good as long as they were obedient unto him.
I do not hold god and country together. The kingdom of heaven will hold people from all nations on earth. While I believe in god and hold him up high he is above my views of my country. I hold values of my country near and dear but they are far surpassed in how I view god and the teachings of his son Jesus.
Jesus said we should "seek first the kingdom", God's kingdom will replace all earthly governments and we ae instructed to pray for that kingdom to come, an that God's will be done on earth as it is in heaven. God and Country... Or God, and his Kingdom?
God's kingdom subjects make up an international brotherhood, with future world wide peace in store for them, something human governments and their boarders are not able to achieve.
Excellent question young lady!
Maybe my mind is slipping but I do not recall the Lord's Prayer talking about God and Country, just about heaven and earth. Also when you say let your will be done on earth as in heaven you are not preparing for him to come here but to act on earth as you will once in heaven. So I would say you need to turn 180 on your thoughts. For to be here on earth as in heaven we need our leaders to be lead by God so yup pray your your but off for them.
Krakyn I agree praying for the world governments to change their ways would be a futile exercise!
The meek shall inherit the earth has real meaning to me. Dose that mean that governments will willingly surrender their sovereignty to God's kingdom, or submit to Gods direction No! The prophet Daniel spoke of an immense image that represented world governments down to our day and those government are removed from the earth and replaced by God's kingdom
