Man with 11 Woman Commune
Police found a stun gun and tear gas Friday at the Tokyo home of a man who said he persuaded 11 younger women to live with him by chanting a spell, media reports said. Police suspect he used the weapons to prevent the women, mainly in their 20s, from leaving, the reports said. [..] He had married and divorced several of the women, who continued to live with him, the reports said.

It sounds to me like he's watched Shallow Hal one too many times. This is another example of people in our worldly society who try to lay the blame for their actions elsewhere and try to find a way for his wrong actions to sound not so wrong. I do not believe in the spell part. They did say they found a stun gun and tear gas in his home, which is what I think, JB, they were referring to when they said weapons.
I don't believe the spell part, but more that this was an abuse of power held over the women.
The women were in my opinion, submissive, and the man probably had a charismatic personality.
If any of these women had been abused in their childhood, then they probably would be easier to target than other people.
I found it astounding that he had divorced several of the women, and they were still staying there in his commune!
In this world of today there is always going to be someone out there waiting to find and prey on the 'more vulnerable'.
