What is wrong with people? These are supposed to be intelligent adults who make decisions that effect an entire country and they want to downgrade a dangerous drug? So many lives are destroyed by ecstasy. Long term use can lead to anxiety, paranoia and depression. They are still studying the long term effects on the brain. They do know that there is long-term memory loss caused by ecstasy. Ecstasy causes a flood of serotonin to be released in the brain causing overload and brain damage.

And because there is no regulation you never know what you are getting. What kids get is a crap shoot. The drug they buy may have little or no actual ecstasy and instead be full of unknown chemicals that can be even more dangerous.

It is tragic the number of young people I see in the psychiatric hospital who will never have a normal life due to excessive use of street drugs. They should not downgrade these drugs. If anything they should upgrade more of the so-called "harmless" drugs.

The governing body is recommending that this drug be downgraded to class B, but apparently the Government are going to choose to ignore the recommendations and leave it as a class A drug....mainly because research has estimated there are approximately 50,000 people using it as a club drug every weekend!

I find that really frightening to think that this is an estimate for just 1 drug...can you imagine what that total would be if they included every drug available on the back street?
Certainly makes you wonder..

What's the reason for trying to downgrade it in any case, don't they have better things to do than be trying to make drugs look less harmful for our children?

Sounds like normal government business. One hand does not know what the other hand is doing. I am glad they did not list this as a class B drug. This is a real dangerous drug and we should be doing more to stop it than letting run rampant through our society.
