An eight-year-old girl has been kidnapped, police believe.
Primary school pupil Leah Sammy did not return home after class on Tuesday.
When her mother called Leah's cell phone, a man answered and asked for a $300,000 ransom.
Last night, Central Division detectives and members of the Anti Kidnapping Squad were at the family's Tom Street, Longdenville home.
Police said the girl is a pupil of the Edinburgh Government Primary School at Edinburgh 500.
She was dropped to school by her mother at 6.55 a.m. On Tuesday, and told that her parents would not be able to pick her up from school that evening.
The girl was told, as she had before, that she would have to travel the short distance from school to home, police said.
When she did not return by 4.30 p.m., her mother called. The family reportedly pleaded with the man on the phone, who promised to call later that night. The call never came.

As I was watching Leah's mom on TV6 news yesterday, my eyes were filled with tears as I am a mom myself, I could feel the pain, anguish and guilt this lady feels for allowing her daughter "only one time" (as she described) to use public transportation. Many times as I walk the streets of Trinidad I am always amazed to see very young children travel by themselves to school without any adults. Unfortunately, we live in a war zone where every move you make in and out of your home is closely monitored.They're watching! Public transportation, specially private cars are NOT safe.
Parents, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be with your kids 24/7, do not allow them to go anywhere by themselves!

Gale Lammy said: "I would like to speak to the owner of the phone please." The male voice replied: "If you want to see the owner of the phone, you have to pay $300,000." Since then the cellular phone has remained off. Lammy tried to maintain her composure while speaking to reporters yesterday but minutes into the interview, she broke down. "I don't know what to say," she sobbed. "But I just want them to know they could release Leah anywhere. Leah knows my number. She will call." "Leah is only eight years old," she said. "We have no money. This has to be some kind of mistake. I really can't take it anymore. What these people take Leah for? Why is this happening?" |

Hugh Montano, 30, dropped off his pregnant girlfriend at her home in California, Couva, eight days ago, and has not been seen since.
