I would agree with the points Isaiah53 has made. Part of the test of mortality is that of proving our fidelity to God when the blessings he promises us through covenants are delayed-some until after death. Think of the condemnation of the Church for not using the Book of Mormon appropriately. There were likely many members of the Church at the time of that revelation who were innocent of the same neglect as the greater part of the Church. Doubtless, they were being blessed for their efforts in some ways, but suffered with the whole of the Church in others.
Maybe that's why the Lord admonished us to forgive each other so much-he knows we're going to drag each other down from time to time. (among other reasons, of course)
