Why Punish The Child For David's Sin?

Why Punish The Child For David's Sin?

Why didn't God severely punish David because of his sin for Uriah and Bethsheba rather than cause suffering of seven days to the child Bethsheba had for David when it was not the child's fault?

QUOTE
13 And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.

15 And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.

16 David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted °, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.

17 And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

18 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?

Sin Davids Child Punish Why

Name: Keith

Comments: It is interesting to me that God's law changes depending on what book it is written in and who is breaking the law. These people thought about it, some lusted, some died, some just paid a few shekels and walked away, but when King David's second son was born to the same woman he lusted after the first time, God loved the child?

God said it was all right to seduce a virgin if your heart was in the right place, ...and you had the shekels.

QUOTE
When a man seduces a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall pay her marriage price and marry her. If her father refuses to give her to him, he must still pay him the customary marriage price for virgins. (Exodus 22:15)

QUOTE
A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death.  (Leviticus 21:7)

QUOTE
If a man comes upon a maiden that is not betrothed, takes her and has relations with her, and their deed is discovered, the man who had relations with her shall pay the girl's father fifty silver shekels and take her as his wife, because he has deflowered her. Moreover, he may not divorce her as long as he lives. (Deuteronomy 22:28)

With all the wives and concubines King David had, it wasn't enough. He walked on the roof one day and saw a woman taking a bath. He found out who she was and slept with her. When she told him she had conceived, he ordered her husband to the front lines so he would be killed in battle. When the pregnant woman heard her husband was dead, she mourned for him, then became King David's wife and bore him a son.
QUOTE
And this thing which David had done, was displeasing to the Lord. (2 Kings 11:27)

So God dealt with David.
QUOTE
Thus saith the Lord; Behold I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes and give them to thy neighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.  For thou didst it secretly; but I will do this thing in the sight of all Israel, and in the sight of the sun. (2 Kings 12:11)
But then God forgave David except for one small detail.
QUOTE
Nevertheless, because thou hast given occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, for this thing the child, that is born to thee, shall surely die.  (2 Kings 12:14)
No devout religious person would question this, but I will. Was it necessary for God to kill an innocent child for the sin of the father? Was there no other way to teach David a lesson? No, the child had to die!
After the child died, it became obvious that David really was forgiven.
QUOTE
And David comforted Bethsabee his wife, and went in unto her, and slept with her: and she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon, and the Lord loved him. (2 Kings 12:24)
After David had been punished, God condoned his marriage to the wife of a man he had killed, and the next child of the marriage, and loved the child?
