This quote reminds me a lot of my son. He is often afraid of the most simple parts of life and becomes very angry at things that are inevitable such as sickness, death, pain, etc.

Interesting Jb as I would have thought this quote was not referring to a sickness or genetic abnormality.

To me it was focused on those to take a mental break from life due to high stress levels or major life change. Say you spouse died violently before your eyes and nothing you can do to stop it. You might close your self in from the world on a mental level or basically mentally with draw from the world around you and end up sitting in a corning rocking and mumbling incoherently.

A person with a learning disorder would be upset more due to the lack of understanding and not being able to make the connections that as a fleshly creature we start dying the moment we are born. As opposed to with drawing from the mental pain of a deep hurt and refusing to admit it ever happened or being shell shocked.

Is there a similarity in the usage of the parts of the brain between the two?

I do agree that someone who does not release stress, remorse, anger and so forth are heading to what is known as a 'nervous breakdown', and I agree this can be formed from this quote. I have not researched where the quote has come from or who are the people being addressed, but the fact that he includes all mental illness and the lack of NOT wanting suffering reminded me of my son as I have no need to concern myself with the lack of release. In many ways I actually believe children like Felipe do not know how to release their frustrations, it has to be taught to them and reminded like most things.

There are actually things in life that you and I may do that we would rather not such as: work, having to memorize or study something, wash clothes, go through traffic, etc. These things can be a negative part of our day, but because we are aware of their necessity, we do not complain and actually appreciate it because we know the benefits. However, for a child with special needs similar to Felipe each of those is such a detriment in daily life that it results in a fight to get them to do it. Protest, constant complaining, break downs with tears and so forth for the most simple of things.

I guess in my mind I was separating the knowing of the benefit of suffering through the task vs not understanding that doing the chore has a positive outcome. Many young children react that way. I would imagine a child with a learning disorder this reaction would continue much longer in years.
