I hope Harkon that they are not breaking the laws either. Though their wild fish might be farmed.

Fishing Saltwater

I have never heard of anyone using a pole to fish in the sea. Pole fishing here is relatively rare in fresh water too, it is a continental style, it is more popular than it was but good fishing poles are quite expensive.

I think pole fishing for catfish in the stats is free so you still see it there. Last time I poled fished was in BC for specs in a mountain river. You got one shot per hole and then they spooked so pole fishing helped you by being farther back on the banks.

Ok so you do not use a pole to fish in the sea what do you use? A rod and reel?

Yes, I use a Diawa Seaspin bass rod, and a Leeda multiplier reel.
Some people use a float over rough ground but I prefer to leger a single bait on a running line with a Chameleon leader. Some use larger hooks than me, but I think relatively small, flexible aberdeens are better.

I often find a smaller hook in rough terain pays off. More hits and less snags. Do you use a floating head on the hook?

I can use my rod and reel pole. I have a open wheel reel. I find to very handy. I like to use little weight so my bait is closer to the top and able to use more of a live type action when fishing. Would that work well in saltwater fishing?

The problem with sea fishing more than a river or lake is the currents and tides; they can be VERY strong. Your bait must hold the bottom, so your line must be fine and you must have just enough lead to stop your hook from traveling allover the weeds and rocks. But a heavy weight will fall into every crack and stop your bait looking natural. It is difficult to get a balance between strength, less drag and stability. A wiley bass wont look at a bait that smells of your soap or looks unreal in any way.
