House History Before Buying
How can I know the history of a house before buying it? For instance, supposed there was a murder there or the house used to be owned by a drug lord?
The simplest way is to ask. The realtor has to disclose any information about the house history if asked about it and they know it. Another way is to go to the police station and ask for a history of trips to that address, This will give you a general clue of history of the house. Talk to neighbors. It is never to early to meet them. They can tell you a lot about what has happened in the house. After all they watched it all happen.
The city can also give you a listing on home owners and the original purchase prices. Nice to know how many hands it has slid through too many could indicate deeper issue in the structure of the home.

Usually on thrillers they show someone doing a search through the newspapers for what comes up on a house. I mean the compputer database of the newspper company and not paper newspapers. You can put in the address and search if anyone did a story on that particular house.

Ask around, there is always a nosey neighbor willing to give up information about the house. For me people it is important to know, for me just for the sake of curiosity rather than to know whether I will purchase it or not based on that information.
