Puppies Behind Bars
I was watching a documentary about "Puppies Behind Bars" where inmates are given the job to train dogs to be sseing eye dogs for the blind or other special needs. Only certain prisoners can participate and the standards for the prisoner dog handlers are kept at a high level, what do you think?
Actually it is very therapeutic. The most hardened criminals have become very emotionally attached to the dogs, more social and able to express themselves better. One inmate said it helped him to get rid of all the anger he has inside.
Wow, that's good to hear. I believe no matter what type of crime these people committed, they're paying for it and those who are expected to be released at some point need to be healed emotionally for how their lives will be when they're out, maybe this therapy with dogs maybe the answer for some of them.
I have seen the outcome of this program and I believe that it is a very good program. I believe that the training of the dogs in prison gives the inmate something to look forward to outside of the bars. IF they can train or get into training dogs outside of prison they become working people who are less likely to re-offend and end up back in prison.
