Rolling Stone magazine apologized to readers for a story it published chronicling one woman's account of a gang rape at a University of Virginia fraternity house and the school's failure to respond to that alleged assault.

"In the face of new information, there now appear to be discrepancies in [the woman's] account, and we have come to the conclusion that our trust in her was misplaced," Rolling Stone said.

The fraternity chapter's lawyer, Ben Warthen, told CNN the magazine's story is "Just not true."

UVA had suspended all fraternities until after the winter break in the wake of the report. Ref. CNN

Isn't that an indirect way of saying that the whole thing might have been made up? If so, then Rolling Stone magazine might want to get their lawyers ready for a suit put out by the University of Virginia.

Charlottesville, Virginia, police today said investigators found no evidence to support a University of Virginia student's story that she was raped at the Phi Kappa Psi house, an account that Rolling Stone published in November.

"Jackie" Told the magazine that she was assaulted at the house in late September 2012, the article said. Police Chief Tim Longo noted that just because investigators found no evidence to support her account, "That doesn't mean that something terrible didn't happen to Jackie" On the day in question.

Longo said he welcomed any information about the case that might still be available from the public. Ref. CNN
