If you are a single female and worried about your weird looking landlord getting access to your place while you are sleeping can you add extra locks?

Sure you can. Your landlord should give you notice before entering your apartment for maintenance so you can make sure the looks are open for those occasions. You can have a deadbolt installed and extra chain and or bolt locks if you need to feel secure. "Back in the days" we would always increase the security on our doors when necessary. Never ran into any problems.

You might get away with changing the lock but adding them could get costly better ask first. Mind you a dead bolt and door stops do the same trick when you are at home. I would just re key the existing lock and play dumb is they ask about it.
