As you stand guard... Kalfie moves closer to the cave entrance in an attempt to peer inside yet remain unseen to listen to those inside and perhaps see how many are inside.
GM: Kalfie needs to roll "Stealth" vs. Body. You are not a thief so there is no modifier.
Thomas decides to climb to the peak to see if he can see more into where the smoke escapes.
GM: Thomas rolls "Stealth" as well. Any negative result will mean either you made noise or slipped.
Against all odds Thomas clibs to the peak using his rope and grappling hook. He peers in and finds himself looking down a 10 foot opening and a possible 30' foot drop to where a fairly large camp fire is kept. A couple of bandits are talking and laughing. They are unaware of your presence. You look around for 'something' to cover the opening, but it is not realistic as far as you can see.
Kalfie listens in at the cave and hears the laughter of men inside, he figures there is not a hostile situation here.
Pundit watches around and does not notice anything unusual save for the mountain to the East with her fire coming from her peak.
GM: Say what you want to do now.
You decide upon an attack. Kalfie rushes into the cave to find two bandits in a relaxed manner talking. They are surprised to see you and immediately stand and make for their weapons. This gives you an initial chance to attack first.
GM: Based on submitted roll:
Kalfie's first swing misses but his next lands and sinks deep into the body of the bandit - he falls to the floor lifeless.
You turn to see Wanderer watching you, she has already laid waste to the other bandit.
GM: Say what you want to do now.
You make a search of the men, they have on them these useful items:
4 gps.
2 Cloaks
2 Leather boots
2 Short swords
The rest of their items are tattered or not worth the extra weight.
You make a search of the cave, all you find it:
- Pile of chopped wood to one corner
- Large fire place at the center of the cave
- Large circular wagon wheel
You are unable to find anything else.
GML Say what you wish to do now.
You make your way outside and can see smoking coming from the mountain peak to the East, there is nothing special about how it rises into the air. In the far distant to the south you see two other smoke trails.
The wagon wheel is solid wood and whole. Around the edges is metal. It fits just right on top of your current fire which is burning rather well sending smoke into the opening at the top in one steady stream. There is no grease on it.
You do not find anything unusual outside.
GM: Say what you will do now.
You leave all the things behind and throw a goodly number of logs on the fire to keep it going. Everyone begins to climb down at dusk, and doing so in darkness is no easy task as the risk for injury can be high.
GM: Everyone roll the Climbing dice again. This time the modifier is +2. You need to get a number not over your body +2.
All of you make your way down the jagged mountain slowly without injury. You reach the base of the mountain to the sounds of distant howls. You are in the dark so it is hard to navigate anything. The wolves may be a mile or less away. You eat and refresh yourselves with drink as quickly as possible. You start making your way to Death's Mouth and notice the howls getting even louder. Ahead you hear the familiar rolling thunder of horses' hooves.
GM: Say what you will do now.
You try to retract your steps quickly and look for higher ground but the sound of the wolves are upon you, in face right on your heels. The light from one moon guides you, but you can only see relative to 100 feet in any direction and everything else is dark.
GM: Everyone make combat rolls, when I have received all I will continue the story.
