Mormons & Hooters - Page 2

QUOTE (Brandon @ 18-Mar 09, 12:35 PM)
Is it OK for Mormons to be eating in Hooters or does it send the wrong message to those watching and you and maybe even a bad influence to your mind?

The place should be avoided like the plague you know what am I saying? there are good places to eat anywhere I don't know why a member would choose to eat there specifically...nevermind I can guess why rolleyes.gif but I mean a good member should know better.

Hooters and Mormons

I compare this and many other situations in life like a rated R movie and a PG-13 movie.

Rated R movies are completely banned. I think of this like pornogrophy.

PG-13 movies are not banned, but many are still not quite appropriate. I think of this like Hooters, BUT, it completely depends on your intentions while your in hooters. If its the only restaurant in 100 miles and you need to eat, then its fine to go in. As long as you aren't going there to be, well, umm, "stimulated," then your okay. I would still avoid it because there's a good chance you could end up "stimulated" anyway.

There was a talk in one of the last general conferences by one of the brethren. He said something along the lines of "there are okay things, there are good things, and then there are better things, and then there are best things." I like to have this kind of attitude.

Comments: This is a ridiculous discussion. Why are we arguing whether or not a restaurant is ok to eat at because of the way the waitresses may dress? When we argue over little things that don't matter, satan wins. No need to be zealots.

Christian I assume you're one of those that go to Hooters to eat a burger? I dont know why you're trying to water it down you know what am I saying? Its not just a "restaurant" and you know it unless you tell me that the few times you went there or planning to go there you will become suddenly blind and dont see the God's giving physical attributes of the ladies there you know what am I saying?. Aw please, now THAT's ridiculous. rolleyes.gif Its not a matter of being a zealot but a matter of choices.

Hooters and Mormons

I may have said some of this before, so please bear with me.

My choice is to go to Hooters once in a while. To get a burger. I love their food. I also choose on occasion to go to a swimming pool or the beach. I find that the view at the swimming pool and the beach are much more indecently dressed, and I know that before going to the beach.

I agree with Christian. We (Mormons) spend far too much effort in these types of discussions (notice the use of the word "we").

Sometimes I think we perfectly fit Jesus' description as we "strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel." If Hooters is so bad, then we certainly should not go to the swimming pool or beach, we should never go water skiing, watch the Summer Olympics, especially not gymnastics. Under no circumstances should any of us watch womens' tennis matches, or the Miss USA (Universe, Utah, Idaho, etc.).

If you want to use Hooters as a symbolic condemnation of our culture, then go ahead. I will agree with you. But if your purpose is to condemn someone who goes to Hooters, then I think you are wrong. I gladly took my whole family to Hooters. My wife still kids me about it, and it happened over 6 years ago.

So, I have no problem at all with someone who wants to go to Hooters, especially if they like the food.

Ah Nighthawk but the point I'm trying to make is those who go to Hooters to check out the women you know what am I saying? You're saying you go there for the food...but come on, its a burger for heaven's sake you cant find another burger you like in another place? You have practically half naked women serving you food and you dont see anything wrong with it? Its pornographic to an extent you know what am I saying?

Well, I can honestly say that I never went there to "check out the women." While on a business trip for training, a friend took me there for lunch. I fell in love with their hamburgers, and especially their "hot wing sandwiches" which are strips of chicken breast cooked like their hot wings (which are great) then served up as a sandwich.

I wouldn't go out of my way to go there, but if there was one close I would definitely go once in a while as I think they make one of the best burgers around.
