Nighthawk Introduction - Page 26

How are you all doing, Nighthawk? I've been thinking about you and the kids and Mrs. Nighthawk, and hoping y'all are adjusting okay to your modified circumstances. Just checking on you. smile.gif

Introduction Nighthawk

We are all doing okay. The Mrs. is frustrated and very tired. As with most women, she doesn't have much upper body strength, so having to get around the house with a walker is taking everything out of her.

We are adjusting to getting things done properly. The most difficult part is that the children need to be driven around so much. I took vacation days yesterday and today so that I could do the driving. We have made arrangements for some things, but still aren't completely sure how we will deal with seminary. Usually, I take them to seminary at 6:15, then she picks them up and takes them to school at 7:00. Now I will have to drop them off, then go back and pick them up and take them to school. That means I will get to work about 45 minutes later than normal.

But, we will work these things out. Somehow. undecided.gif

I am glad to see you around the forum tonight. I can relate to Mrs. Nighthawk being tired and frustrated. I am glad to hear you are getting some help from others and are beginning to work things out and that you have been able to take some vacation days to be of help.(Sorry, I know that those vacation days are precious and you may have no desire to have to use them on things like this instead of fun and/or relaxation) You must be having a good time with your pet tonight, because just about every time I have looked to see "Who's Online" you have been in the pet shop. smile.gif Maybe you could rent some good movies this weekend or play games of some type with your family. Thank you also for posting in my intro. I hope you have a good evening and that all will be well with your wife.

I am glad that things are beginning to settle in. I am sure you have already considered this, but isn't there another family whose child goes to seminary that could deliver yours to school when the take their own to school.

Also, I hope you have contacted the Relief Society's Compassionate Service Leader. They should be able to help with housework and meals while your wife is recovering. Yes, you and the kids will need to do some of it, but you shouldn't have to do it all alone. That is what we have a sisterhood and brotherhood for in the first place. That is why we are called the "Relief" Society, in my opinion anyway and I do know that is how we would do things in my ward, at least.

Take care.

Introduction Nighthawk

Nighthawk, are your wife visiting teachers around? Do you all have home teachers?. In situations like these, the RS and the visiting teachers are the ones who usually are supposed to give you all a hand.

Nighthawk Introduction

Our HT's wife is the Compassionate Service leader. She brought a meal over last night. Her VTs brought a meal over on Wednesday. Our HT helped me give her a blessing before the surgery.

So, yes, we have had some help.

Our youngest son had been planning a sleepover for last night, to celebrate his birthday - Jan 1. We gave in and let him do it. It wasn't too bad, but it was a bit more stress that we could have done without.

I don't know about having someone over to help clean. There are six of us at home that can do some extra things each, in order to get everything done.

Well sincerely if I was there I would definetly help you all clean up and cook some dishes (I am not a great cook but I guess if you all like italian food then I could cook that as long as you all need it). I wish I can do more to help.

Another suggestion concerning your children's early seminary. What about the parents of the children who attend with them? Can they make you a favour and pick them up?. Other suggestion is you can talk with the seminary teacher and maybe they can take seminary classes once a week (I think the program is called Individual Supervised Seminary, this is what I did when I was in Argentina since early seminary was not available) and wait until your wife is ready for it.

Unfortunately, the reason that we always drive our own children to and from seminary is that there are so few drivers available. We take the two to seminary, then usually take one or two more back to school - every day. Home study isn't really a good option for the short term. It means a LOT more work for the children, and my daughter is already overwhelmed by work and homework. Besides, we basically have to take them to school anyway, so they might as well go to seminary first.

We are probably pretty well set on the food front. The children are frequently happy with macaroni and cheese, and there are variety of foods that my sons and I can cook up pretty well.

I am not all that bothered about having really complex, fancy meals. A good soup and salad, a curry, or spaghetti all make great meals.
