Introduction Nighthawk
I want to put up a little bit of a rant here. If it is inappropriate, I hope that someone will
delete it for me.
A while back, I got into trouble for stating that I think that a journalism degree is the "2nd most useless degree in the world." I will freely admit that I was exaggerating. I guess I meant that I think it is the 2nd most useless degree that is offered any sort of credibility. After all, a degree in "basket weaving" or "women's studies" are recognized by most thinking people as worth far less than the paper they are printed on.
However, a lot of people actually think that degrees in education or journalism actually have some meaning. From my limited experience, I see both of them as being training grounds for partisan political positions, focusing on the far left of the political spectrum. They both seem to me to also be mostly about protecting their privileged positions in the forum of shaping political opinion.
Personally, I have a great deal of contempt for journalists, in general. That contempt is in direct proportion to the contempt that journalists show towards me, my culture, my ideals, my President, and my country. Journalists who actually try to be objective and provide real information, will have my respect. Those who pick and choose what they are going to report on based on how it portrays my country and/or my President, will not.
Well, that is enough for now.
We are enjoying freezing rain this morning. It took me about 10 minutes to crack enough ice off of my car this morning so that I could see out all the windows and drive to work. Lots of fun!
I took a half day of vacation yesterday to drive with my wife through some back roads in the area. She is taking a
photography class, focusing on the artistic aspects of
photography, and needed to take some photos of various "rustic" type settings. I was impressed, as usual, with the beauty in the countryside. Despite the fact that none of us really like living here in Michigan, once you get away from Detroit, it really is a beautiful state.
Specifically, we drove through an area called "Irish Hills". Apparently it was settled by a large group of Irish colonists way back when. Incredible hills, forests, and large tilled fields. Also a lot of small lakes spread all over the place. It looks like there are probably quite a few small resorts in the area. I really enjoyed this little time with my family.
