Nighthawk Introduction - Page 52

I just got caught up on your Blog. I am happy for your new employ and I hope you find life in Nebraska more appealing - both Church and otherwise. Will this place you closer to Arizona now?

Introduction Nighthawk

We will be about 10 hours driving time from Salt Lake City (versus 24 now) and between 14 and 16 hours to Phoenix (versus 33 now). This gets us a lot closer to our older children, to my mother, two sisters, and two brothers.

My wife's brother has recently moved from England to Logan, Utah, so we will be able to visit with his family for the first time ever.

The biggest change for us is going to be a huge drop in housing costs. We expect to be able to buy a house with 4 or 5 bedrooms, with as much as 5 acres, for less than we are currently paying for a small two bedroom condominium.

With this expectation, though, my wife and children decided that we needed another dog (as if Oberon the monster dog isn't enough!)

So, yesterday they got us a St. Bernard puppy. She is the cutest, fluffiest thing you ever saw. And, at 10 weeks old, she is larger than a full grown Cocker Spaniel.

At least she is very calm and gentle, unlike Oberon who is still high strung (but I think he is absolutely wonderful).

Anyway, I finish work in Michigan on 9/27, and start in Nebraska on 10/2. I am looking forward to the move and the new challenges.

Well, it is the end of a major chapter in my life, and, hopefully, the start of a new one.

I finished with GM yesterday. The folks that I worked with were very nice about it. They bought a cake, and got me a $50 gift certificate to Olive Garden.

I leave for Nebraska today. We are all going to Olive Garden this afternoon as soon as the children get home from school. When we get back from the restaurant, I will put the last few things into the car, and head out!

I think that there will be internet available at the motel I will be staying in, but am not completely sure. If not, then I will only be available once in a while, probably from the public library. I don't know if I could live like that, but I may have to learn to. undecided.gif

Wow! What an exciting time! That seemed to come round really quickly (but probably not for you)

Will be thinking of you as venture into 'your new life', and hopefully it won't be long until you've all got a new home to live in and enjoy.

It would be great to hear an update as and when you can (internet access allowing!)

All the very best, Diane.

Olive Garden?! You are so lucky wink.gif

Seriously... We're rooting for you, Nighthawk. I know things seem uncertain just now, and maybe a little scary, but you are one brave hombre.

Please do tell us how things go for you, when you can.

Roz

P.S. A St. Bernard? Yikes!

Here I am, in Cozad, Nebraska. I am staying in the local Motel 6.

It was a very long drive. 14 hours of driving, with a few hours here and there for sleep, walking around, and general relaxation. I left Ann Arbor at about 7:30 PM (EDT) and arrived here at about 6:30 PM (CDT). So, it was about 24 hours of travel.

Iowa was particularly beautiful today. The rolling hills, covered with fields of corn, ready for harvest. Areas that would be difficult to farm (gullies and stream areas) filled with cattle. Warm weather, with a few small rain squalls, the sky covered with puffy clouds at times, separated by full overcast.

Tomorrow, I will look around the area. I will visit some of the small towns in the area, to see what they are like, and take some pictures for my family. Sunday, I will go to North Platte to watch conference. The Bishop's wife (a distant relative of mine) invited me to join their ward for a potluck lunch between conference sessions.

I start work at 7:30 AM Monday morning.

Well, back to checking out the forum! smile.gif
