Nighthawk Introduction - Page 59

I was called to be the 2nd Counselor in the Bishopric.

When I bore my testimony today, I pointed out that this is NOT an exciting thing, nor is it a reason to be congratulated. I didn't, and don't really want this calling. I have never aspired to be anything greater than a nursery worker.

However, since I was called to this position, I have made some commitments to the Lord, that I intend to live up to.

We are an extremely small ward. We had about 75 people in attendance today. However, we have over 400 people in the ward.

I believe, and my wife concurs, that we were led to this place at this time. My wife believes that I have been called to this position in preparation for the one real dream I have concerning the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that is to be involved in a place of refuge during times of tribulation. I don't know about that, but it sounds good to me.

We are moved in, but all of us feel very miserable. Most of us have been under the weather this last week, and the moving just destroyed us. My shoulders, especially the left one (that I have broken twice) are very, very sore. My left shoulder was swollen out about 2 inches for a good part of the day yesterday. When it does that, I can hardly grip anything with my left hand. It is a lot better today, but still sore.

Since this is such an old house, there is a lot of work to do in it. I am going to have to run a lot of 12/3 wiring (2 insulated 12 gage wire, with 1 bare ground wire) for outlets. The man who lived here before just ran a lot of extension cords around the basement, and other places.

However, the house is growing on me more and more. It is huge. For the first time in our lives, we feel that we don't have to worry about space.

I do plan on posting pictures, once some of the cold weather has passed.

(It has been no higher than 8 degrees F every morning for the last two weeks, usually below 0.)

Enough for now. Please forgive me may lack of activity on the forum. My mind is on other things.

Introduction Nighthawk

Once again, I offer my best wishes for you in your new calling,Nighthawk. I think you'll do very well in that position, particularly because you are very outspoken and feel very deeply your convictions. I know it isn't a position you sought for, but I believe the Lord does need you to be where you are, doing what you are doing.

Congratulations on your new home!
It sounds great, especially all the space. I know you'll do well with your calling also, nothing would be asked of you unless you could do it, there's always a reason for things, whether we see them at the time or not.
Try and make some time for yourself to put your feet up this week, you can do too much when you first move in a new house, ... been there, done that..and learnt from it! laugh.gif
All the best to you, Diane.

Actually, it is entirely up to the Bishop to decide what the counselors' responsibilities are.

As far as I know, there is only one (even semi) active single adult in our ward. And, I think she is fairly new in the ward, possibly in the Church. But I will do whatever I can to fulfill the responsibilities I am given.

I am home, sick, today. The flu has been going around in a huge way here for a couple of weeks. All of the schools in Lexington (the next town to the east) were closed for a few days because of it. I was getting sicker and sicker yesterday, so came home at about 3 PM. I do expect to help my wife a lot today, though, as there is a LOT to do yet.

Introduction Nighthawk

Congratulations on the move, I certainly envy your unlimited space since that is the one thing I would love to have. I'm glad the house is growing on you. Maybe it's just that you don't ever want to go through another move again. laugh.gif Good luck with your calling, a challenge to be sure. You are no longer a moderator? Well, that is certainly understandable considering the limited time you will have in the near future. Don't be a stranger, your point of view is always thought provoking and educational and often insightful.

Nighthawk Introduction

Life has been interesting here lately. We had a couple of weeks of intensely cold weather (frequent nighttime temps below 0 degrees, no daytime temps above 15). Then it warmed up nicely, then went cold again. We also got another huge snowstorm. We almost didn't go to church because the blowing snow was so bad, but we went anyway. We just about finished an hour early, but people kept streaming in, so we had the full three hours.

I really like working here. I have a "smile inside" all the time at work. I also really like Nebraska. There aren't a lot of people, we have a very small active group of people at work, and it is generally very quiet. Last week, we had a pretty good attendance - 77 people.

Anyway, just wanted to check in here.

Hi Nighthawk, good to see you around!
I'm really glad to hear that things are going so well for you, it definitely sounds like you made the right move...I can't remember ever saying your last job made you smile!
It's good that you are settling in so well, because it's certainly a big change in environment, I bet the snow looked beautiful even if it does hold people up and make things move slower!
Best wishes, Diane.

Good to hear from you, Nighthawk! The "smile inside" is a wonderful thing, isn't it? How's Mrs. Nighthawk and the kids handling the changes?

Take care,
Roz
