Woodson Academy teacher William Pow had just finished writing on the blackboard one January afternoon, he said, when he turned to face his algebra class and saw the textbook "Mathematics in Life" hurtling toward his head.
Safety for the teachers as well as the students should be number one. number two should be ensuring that the students get a good education. I think that while this violence is going on no one is getting the first two. If you have teachers fearing for their lives are they going to teach? I think the answer to that is plain and simple. Too bad, it is probably just a few students who are ruining it for all the others.
Action obviously needs to be taken to show students like that that their behaviour is unacceptable. Teachers also need to feel safe in their workplace and to have someone who's supposed to be there to learn violating your safety rights is ridiculous.
That is well said Voicebox. I am thinking now how many of the teachers who are being abused or threatened will be back next year? IF nothing is done to help protect the teachers I can see there being a very big shortage of teachers next year.
